Mike Flanagan Notches First Professional Victory!

Sureshot Classic Winner

The SureShotGPS Classic is in the books. We welcomed 3 new players to The Lone Star Series, Earl Jacks, Brian Ellis and Terry Connell. The front nine leaderboard was bunched up, with Todd Harp and Brian Ellis grabbing the early lead with 1-under 35's. 4 other players were close behind and within 2 shots of the lead. It seemed that nobody could pull away on the back 9. Patrick Chamberlain and Todd Harp posted early scores of 72, which was good for a tie for 3rd. Mike Flanagan came in one better at 71, but Clint Avara decided he wanted to go to extra holes again. So we were off to our 2nd sudden death playoff in as many tournaments. Both players hit driver on the short par 4 first and found the fairway. Mike Flanagan was up first and put the pressure on. He backed his wedge shot up over the cup nearly holing it and the ball came to rest a few inches from the cup for what appeared to be a tap-in birdie. Clint was able to get in birdie range about 5 feet from the hole. Avara rolled his birdie attempt over the right edge and left Mike Flanagan with his tap-in. Mike made the putt and took home his first professional victory. Mike grew up in Allen, TX, is 23 and currently a Golf Professional at Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, TX. LSS: Mike, what went well for you today? MIKE: Honestly, it was a grind all day. LSS: What's next? Mike: Keep playing and make it on the PGA Tour. Thanks Mike, and Congratulations on the victory! Just for the record, we would like to pay for the Q-School entry for you, see you at The NGT Player's Championship.
